There are some who would say that Plastiki is just one big publicity stunt - and those people would be absolutely right. The purpose of the strange-looking and improbable eco-yacht - and the goal of David de Rothschild, the rest of the crew, and the project as a whole – is not to set a record, nor to prove any new design, but to attract worldwide public attention to a tremendous and growing problem out in the middle of our oceans. It almost deserves an epic poem:  Two brief battles put an end to a long war, a war which took place between today's equivalent of feuding kings, for what is nothing less than sailing's holy grail.  On the one side was the reigning defender, the charming billion-heir Ernesto Bertarelli, who made the rules up seemingly as he went along, and who could be forgiven his tactics by his subjects only for as long as he could keep his power.  On the other side was the challenger for the throne, the relentless would-be usurper Larry Ellison, the software billionaire who would be forgiven his revolt and litigious ways only if he succeeded in his quest.  Each king had his fortune, his army of champions, his war machine, his spies and his allies, and each king set out to vanquish the other.
